The word booster is a loose term used and needs to be explained. the boosters’ job is to increase the signal (boost) it, this device is used when the signal is low or is needed to run multiple TVs in a house or unit, etc.
but in order for it to work properly, it needs the starting signal(input) to be within spec this is complicated and is explained in other blogs I have but it needs a good foundation to produce a reliable output so as not to have any faults at the other end. Amplifying weak signals will produce any faults that are in the signal and effectively make it worse.
how do they work? ok so the amplifier( booster) is normally in a weatherproof box situated outside, and its power is derived from the power injector that goes inside or in the roof space. this injector(power supply) sends 14-20 volts dc up the coaxial cable and with the magic of electronics switches the amplifier on and boosts (amplifies) the signal, fascinating really but amazing as well.
some boosters have different amplification levels some 24db others 34 db up to 42 and are either fixed value or variable types. the antenna company sells and recommends the Matchmaster range of boosters as they are a proven reliable item that has been on the market for many years 75 plus in fact.
