Tv Fly Leads
Oh boy, this is an ongoing problem overlooked by so many consumers, its not funny. People go and spend 2-3-4-5-6-k on a new flat panel led 4K now 8K tv but neglect the vital link, the cable, the tv fly lead, the veins for the blood to pump freely…
I sell a bazillion cheap fly leads on my eBay store and from my shop, even though I stress that they are cheap, they are still bought. If you owned a nice car would you put retreads or cheap second-hand tires on it? I don’t think so, and when inferior parts are used, performance is compromised. Picture quality is effected it may look ok but it can be so much better.
In saying all of this, there are overpriced leads sold in the BIG HIFI electronic retailers. Unfortunately, they are still cheap construction. It should say what the packet contains and not many would be able to stipulate RG6 QUAD SHIELD CABLE. You cannot make claims that are not true but fancy packaging and interesting words do not make a product better. What it is made of makes it superior pure and simple.
BOOSTERS/MASTHEAD AMPLIFIERS/DISTRIBUTION AMPLIFIERS
What are boosters? Well like the word says they boost! But the correct term is amplify, (to increase) but as it is another confusing issue, let’s see if I cannot clear up the confusion.
Way down the bottom of the scale is the cheap signal amplifiers you buy from the BIG hardware stores. You may as well get your $30 dollars and throw it in the bin. They do nothing to improve your reception. What they can do is help push along a signal if a long run is imminent, but this only works if you have a good signal to start with.
Next is a Masthead Amplifier, no this is the real deal, a game-changer, and also works in a unique way. These are a two-part system so first is the (booster). This sits outside as close to the antenna as possible, the (power supply) goes inside, plugs into an existing wall socket, be it F type or old PAL. What happens is the (POWER SUPPLY) sends low voltage 14dc through the coaxial cable up to the amp, switches it on and the booster Amplifies the signal anywhere up to @34dbuv. This is a huge BOOST, just imagine a big water pump and having a lot of pressure at the other end, then when you turn other taps on the water will flow without degradation from the other taps. So just like the TV signal, the extra outlets will have enough juice to adequately supply sufficient signals to all the TVs without compromising the quality.
But… (there is always a but right?) you must have a minimum starting point for the signal to be boosted, otherwise what will happen is you will amplify the weak signal along with noise and the end result will be a total waste of time. If you are not sure, call me on 0490777033 and we will go through it and sort it out.
Last on the list is distribution amplifiers these have enormous power and push hard for multiple outlets eg over 12 and are more commonly used in MDUs (multi-dwelling units). Even these may have a masthead amplifier before the input before final distribution and in exceptionally long runs masthead amplifiers can be put in line like a daisy chain. At the end another distribution amp can be used for more outlets. Yes it’s amazing, interesting, and seamless when done correctly.
